Why was he drawn to her. He was caught between dialling her number or not. He suddenly felt tensed as the phone rang which was a rather uncanny feeling for him. " Hello, how are you doing" " I'm fine, thanks" "You didn't allow me say a word afterwards, you just ran in, where you shy" He teased. " Umm, yes kind of " She blushed. "I almost bit my fingers, while eating that food, it was so delicious. Where did you learn to cook like that!" She blushed further and tried to sound modest " I'm not all that now..." "What are you doing this weekend" " Nothing much, I'll be home" " I was thinking if you would like to have lunch with me" He waited for a response. She took a minute and finally spoke " I...I don't know, I'm not sure, I think I'll be busy" " You just said you would be doing nothing, it's okay, it seems somehow, but it's just lunch" " Okay then"
He pulled up infront of her house and waited barely few minutes before she came out. She looked good in her short red dress with her behind quite conspicuous. " You're a good time keeper, that's a rare disposition in the female specie" They both laughed " Thanks, I guess I'm a different specie among the species" "You sure are and you look nice" "Thank you, you look good as well" They chit-chatted away till they got to the restaurant. They loosened up while having lunch and everything seemed nice. They even went Go-Karting afterwards and for a minute both of them pulled down their barriers. "My house isn't really far from here, I could show you, if you want" "Sure, it's fine"
He drove in. His fleet of exotic state-of-the-art cars were designed like an artwork at a corner of the compound. She was in awe. He took her inside and she was amazed " Your house looks like what I see in foreign movies, it is so beautiful! "  He smiled " Thanks". He poured her some champagne while he had some shots of scotch "I had a really nice time today" "Me too, especially when I won the race! " They both laughed. He had some more scotch, she had some more champagne and soon they were so relaxed that they began to cuddle. He reached for her lips and kissed her tenderly, she kissed back then stopped "Why me " " Truth is I don't know, I can't explain it" " I'm not in your league, I'm not your standard kind of girl, this all feels like a dream that I never want to wake up from. It's too good to be true..." " Listen, sometimes we find ourselves doing things we can't really decipher. Like you said, it feels like a dream, let's try not to wake up and just go with the flow" With that being said, they both kissed away and made passionate love.

He picked up his phone to dial her number when her call came in. She was coming over, she wanted to talk to him. He walked towards the door to let her in, she looked radiant in her tight pencil jean and peplum top accentuating her assets and her behind that got him intrigued in the first place. He reached out and kissed her, she kissed back reluctantly. "How are you"  "I'm okay, I need to talk to you" " Hope everything is okay?" " Umm, yes, sure it's just that I need to redefine what we are doing" " Oh, what do you mean by redefine" he asked. "My boyfriend proposed to me". He froze for a second. "Wait, you have a boyfriend, how come you never told me about it?" " I'm sorry, we were having issues then, when you and I met, and we have resolved it,he proposed and umm, I...I.. still love him. As for us, I didn't believe that something substantial would come out from what we had". She walked close to him and held his hands. Suddenly he could see the small shiny stone on her finger, it was quite a simple and plain ring, nothing like anything he would have given her. "Everyday, I moved with doubt in my mind whenever I thought about you. Look at you, you have it all, you can have anything, any girl, but not me. With you, I feel so self-effacing, passive, timid and totally insecure. Society will sneer at you, they will taunt me, and for that I have decided to walk away and start another phase of my life with my fiance. I'm so sorry, like a song I once heard, you're the best thing I never had". She kissed him, turned around and walked out, teary eyed. He stood there speechless, not moving a muscle, feeling eerie, stupefied and downhearted...
